On April 28-29 we travelled to Addo Elephant Park. We stayed at the Aardvark Guesthouse and had a fantastic time–highly recommended. Great accommodation, very friendly & very conveniently located to Addo, Aardvark is also reasonable priced. We spent one and a half days at Addo itself. The weather was not great–cool, with showers of rain. Despite this we still had a fantastic time and saw plenty of animals. We did not see Lion or Rhino (nor Leopard–but no-one ever sees those!). The first animal we saw was actually a Spotted Hyena–for about 5 seconds! This was also the only Spotted Hyena we saw. No photos of the Hyena unfortunately. I did not see as many birds as I thought I might–too cold & windy I guess; though I did see 5 new species:
- Cape Glossy Starling Lamprotornis nitens
- Denham’s Bustard Neotis denham
- Greater Double-collared Sunbird Cinnyris afer
- Red-billed Quelea Quelea quelea
- Red-necked Spurfowl Pternistis afer

Bokmakierie Telophorus zeylonus (above right)
We saw a good number of animals including the following:

Cape Buffalo Syncerus caffer
Black-backed Jackal Canis mesomelas

Red Hartebeast Alcelaphus buselaphus
Greater Kudu Tragelaphus strepsiceros
Warthog Phacochoerus africanus
There is a mammal species list for Addo available here.
