One of my favourite wildlife spots locally is the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Recently I spent a Saturday afternoon there and managed to get some shots of a male Yellow Bishop – also known as the Yellowrumped Widow (Euplectes capensis) doing his best to attract a mate. His display was quite spectacular–he fluffed up all his feathers and fluutered around from bush to bush like a giant bumble bee. He had an audience of one female & despite the time & effort he put into his display he was not successful in getting her approval while I was there.

(Yes I know I haven’t finished the Kruger National Park series–I promise I will ASAP.)
